EFCC arrests Bala Mohammed, ex-FCT Minister

Former Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bala Mohammed, was on Monday arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

While information in respect to his arrest was still vague as at the time of filing this report, however, different sources confirmed Monday night he was arrested and detained at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.

According to one of the sources, Mohammed detention was still being handled at about 8:45pm on Monday. He may not be leaving EFCC custody soon, at least not on Monday.

The former Nigerian senator from Bauchi State was a Minister of FCT under President Goodluck Jonathan between 2010 and 2015.

Mohammed is among the many officials who served during former President Jonathan’s administration to be arrested by the EFCC under President Muhammadu Buhari’s leadership anti-corruption crusade.

At the moment, Musiliu Obanikoro, a former Minister of State for Defence; Femi Fani-Kayode former Jonathan’s re-election campaign spokesman, Reuben Abati, Senior Special Adviser to former President Jonathan are all in EFCC custody. Several others are being tried in court for varying alleged corruption offences.
