It is no longer a big deal as Lagosians struggle to make
ends meet and at the same time seek luxury and comfort as the case may be. Although
this seems to be fore mostly done on the Island area of Lagos state Nigeria,
considering the high cost of living and cost of transportation from the areas
that have affordable rents to the commonly aimed area choice of work, It
seems to be that on the Islands has more reliable firms with promising careers
and high pay/wages for staffs.
It was no different with the case of Ireti, who use to live at
Ajegunle area of Lagos Nigeria and had to resume at work every morning on the
Lekki area of Lagos Nigeria.
Ireti had practiced this travel to work for three years and
lamented to a colleague on how she would have loved to get an apartment
somewhere in Lekki just to make it easy and stress-free to resume at work but
the cost of houses on the Lekki axis where way too high as they ran into
millions or at least half a million. It was at this point her colleague had
told her that things and system for middle classed persons were styled
differently, Ireti in all curiosity was interested in what it was her colleague
meant and so she got a clarification that people did share apartment, that mean
people who could afford to pay millions did pay but usually wanted house mates or
flat mates as the case may be to reduce cost of bills. Ireti found the idea interesting
and instructed that one of such should be found for her too.
In no time Ireti found a service apartment which had been
rented by a guy who only wanted a lady as his house mate, the idea seemed fair
and understandable considering the fact that men don’t really like doing house
chores and home management generally and so she met with the guy made payment
and in no time she moved into one of the rooms which was clearly luxurious and
en-suit, Ireti was finally at piece and was happy, more so work became more fun
to her.
Interestingly, these two house mates grew fund of each
other, it was so bad that the girlfriend of the Guy had several fights with
Ireti and the guy usually took Ireti’s side claiming Ireti took care of the
house so why then should his girlfriend complain.
Two years down the line, this guy proposed to Ireti and they
both got married.
My dear readers kindly explain to me in your own
understanding if this new flat mate trick is another new method of men choosing
wives or is there something that I may probably be missing here?
