Ohanaeze laments growing poverty in Nigeria

Apex Igbo Socio-cultural organisation,  Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday lamented the recent rating of Nigeria as the capital of poverty in the world.

The Spokesman of the group, Chuks Ibegbu noted that it showed that those who have been superintending over the country have done little or nothing to improve the lives of Nigerians but are busy accumulating wealth for only themselves and their families, He warned of the consequences of poverty in Nigeria and the implosion it may cause in the nearest future if not tackled.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo  therefore called on Nigerian rulers at all levels not to dismiss the rating but do everything possible to tackle the disaster . He tagged Nigeria as a giant on mosquito legs and told Nigerian past and current rulers to bury their heads in shame for this annoying but true rating. He noted that the Igbos in the USA will be organising an Igbo Cultural Fiesta in Virginia under the auspices of the Igbo World Assembly and the Council of Igbo Communities in the Americas.

The President of IWA and Onowu of Abagana , Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze is hosting the event in which the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo would be the Guest Speaker and Special Guest, In another   development, the War Against Poverty and Hunger in Nigeria, WAPHIN   is set to organise a workshop against hunger and deprivation in Nigeria in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria. The event would witness skill empowernment modules, demonstrations and strategies on poverty eradication.


The Program Director of   WAPHIN, Chinonyerem Dick called on all Nigerians to join the group to end poverty in Nigeria especially with the declaration of Nigeria as the headquarters of poverty in the world
