THE LOVE SHE MUST HATE

All sited on a rather limited squared table, are five men and just a lady who wasn’t really saying much except answering questions which she was been asked as it concerned the business they had sited for.

One of the gentle Men, had jokingly mentioned; "this one you sit amongst Men and its just you in a business meeting, what is your part here?".

She smiled, for that was all it needed to be, he didn’t need to know what she was thinking or what she could conclude.

''I'': Now she narrates;

The meeting was soon over and the gentle men walked to their cars, but I had to pay my respect by walking them as well as he who had been the reason I had been sited in the meeting did.

I clearly believed I was over the sexism for the day or should I call it feminine bully for that day, just when the discuss continued upon our return back to our table.
This time there were two other gentlemen who had sited on a table a little away from ours.

A heated political discussion aroused, which had drawn two of my friends who returned to sit for a few drinks. But I noticed that in a continuous debate, this one man who afterwards I identified would do all the talking and all the conclusion and would impose his opinions and worse more not let anyone conclude on any topic, much less arrive at a point.

I felt I should listen some more as I watched my friends struggle to contribute and make sense hence they were not allowed to finish a statement.
I wasn’t making an understanding of what this man as I would now describe him to be ‘’a Dictator’’ was saying.
After about 30 minutes I was forced to interrupt, off course with courtesy, calling him with his Mr. Title to his name in a rather friendly and polite manner.
‘’Mr. X, I believe communication should be all about…..  I was cut short!
‘’make your point he said’’ I continued… ‘’communication should be you speak I listen and I talk you listen so we can better understand ourselves’’.

Just then did I get that shocking response ‘’The African tradition is when men talk women don’t talk, you women should know your place in the society, this is Africa not America, not because the men allowed women get educated to be emancipated does not mean she should constitute nuisance in the society.
At this point the topic for discussion changed and became rather more heated.
Glaring to me for the first time that as a Woman in Africa, especially Nigeria, if you must be heard, respected or relevant in the society, you must believe in yourself and fight for your voice to be heard.
